Basic Rice Krispies Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal 6 cups Shortening 3 tbsp (I use Butter Flavor Shortening from Spectrum) Miniature marshmallows 1 package (10 oz) (I use Jet Puffed Marshmallows from Kraft) Sugar stars (cupcake decoration) White and green food color * The original recipe with no food color will be lightly tanned color. Fondant Sugar 780g Corn Syrup 150g Water 1/2 cup Black food color Confectioners' sugar Need: Candy thermometer *No peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, soy, wheat |
Fondant ( to make the face, ears, eyes, and arms)
1. Place sugar, corn syrup, and water in a pan and heat, stirring occasionally.
2. Attach the candy thermometer and boil until it reaches 240F. Stir occasionally.
3. Pour the sugar mixture to a large rectangular shaped pan. CAUTION. It's hot.
4. Using wood spatula, stir the mixture in figure-eight pattern until very thick and stiff, and color should be white.
5. Knead the fondant on a flat surface, dusted with confectioners' sugar.
6. When it becomes like a dough, take small portion away just enough to make the eyes (and any other additional shapes you like.) Knead more.
7. Poke and make a hole with your finger on a big fondant. Add black food color and knead more.
8. Wrap with plastic wrap and set aside.
Basic Rice Krispies
1. In a medium size pot, melt shortening. The heat should just tickle the bottom of the pot. Don't try to make it quick.
2. Add the marshmallows to the pot. Stir constantly with a spatula. Do not raise the heat. Do this very slowly with patience.
3. When the marshmallows completely melt, add white food color. Stir well to have even color.
4. Turn off the heat and add rice krispies cereal. Stir and cover all the cereal with melted marshmallows.
5. Repeat the process with green food color for the back ground.
Shaping
1. Spread the green krispies on a flat surface as thin as you can.
2. Press hard using cutting board to make the krispies flat. When the krispies hardened, flip it so that you will have smooth surface.
3. Form the bodies and hair for Shaun. Make white krispies into small ping pong sized balls and attach together to make them look like fur.
4. Shape the face, ears, eye balls, and arms with black fondant.
5. Make eye bases with white fondant.
6. Place them all together on top of the green krispies to shape Shaun and Timmy.
7. Using back of a chopstick, poke and make a slanted hole to make their nose.
8. Decorate with sugar stars for additional colors.
